Canesten Combi (clotrimazole) is an antifungal treatment used for vaginal thrush (candidiasis) and the external symptoms associated with it. The combination pack contains a vaginal tablet or pessary (to treat internal infection) and an external cream (to relieve itching, redness, and irritation around the vulva). Clotrimazole works by killing the yeast (Candida) causing the infection.

The combination pack contains a vaginal tablet or pessary (to treat internal infection) and an external cream (to relieve itching, redness, and irritation around the vulva). Clotrimazole works by killing the yeast (Candida) causing the infection.

Directions for Use

  • Vaginal tablet/pessary: Insert one pessary deep into the vagina at bedtime, using the applicator provided.
  • External cream: Apply a thin layer to the affected external area 2–3 times daily until symptoms clear (usually within 7 days).
  • Wash hands before and after use.
  • Avoid sexual intercourse during treatment, as thrush may transfer and creams can weaken condoms/diaphragms.

Ingredients

  • Active ingredient: Clotrimazole 500mg (vaginal tablet/pessary) + Clotrimazole 2% cream (10g).
  • Excipients (pessary): Lactose, maize starch, magnesium stearate.
  • Excipients (cream): Benzyl alcohol, polysorbate, cetostearyl alcohol, sorbitan stearate, purified water.

Warnings

  • Not suitable if allergic to clotrimazole or any excipients.
  • Consult a doctor before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, under 16, or over 60.
  • See a doctor if symptoms recur within 2 months, or if it’s your first thrush episode.
  • Do not use during menstruation, as it may reduce effectiveness.
  • If partner also has thrush symptoms, they may require treatment.

Possible Side Effects

  • Common: Mild burning, irritation, or itching after application.
  • Uncommon: Abdominal pain, rash.
  • Rare but serious: Severe allergic reaction (swelling, difficulty breathing). Seek medical attention immediately if this occurs.
